Who We Are

ROAR Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue of stray and unwanted animals in Rocky Mountain House and surrounding areas:  Nordegg, Leslieville, Eckville, Condor, Caroline.  We are a 'no-kill' society intent on reducing the use of euthanasia on homeless animals.  The only time an animal will be euthanized is if their quality of life is diminished due to injury, disease, or serious behavioural problems.  We are comprised of dedicated individuals committed to making a difference.  ROAR depends on donations and sponsorship to ensure these animals have a second chance at life.  Pet owners who can no longer care for their pets are encouraged to find new homes for them before contacting us.  We are to be regarded as a last resort for these animals when all other possibilities have been exhausted.

What We Do

At this time, ROAR does not have a 'shelter' to house animals, but instead relies upon a network of foster families who treat the animals as 'family" until a permanent 'forever home' can be found.  This puts less stress on the animals and allows the foster family to learn the pet's personality and behaviour.  If you are interested in becoming a foster family please CONTACT US.  We are always in need of foster homes!  We have information available on how to introduce a new animal to your existing pets and make the transition as easy as possible for all involved.  Please be aware that fostering does take a high level of commitment.  Your foster pet may be with you for anywhere from a week to 3 months!

Adoptions

Our adoptions fees are in place to help cover costs incurred to make these animals healthy.  This includes spay/neuter, first shots, and general check-up to ensure your new pet is healthy before you take him/her home.  Although we realize that strays come free of charge, overall their cost in vet bills will surpass the fee we are asking for adoption.  Please see our pricing comparison fact charts on the DOG PAGE and the CAT PAGE.  Because we invest so much time into our animals we do ask that you fill out an adoption form so we can find an animal that is well suited to your needs and those of your family.

Emergency Placement

In co-operation with Rocky Victim Services and MRWS, we will provide temporary care for an animal that is in danger due to a violent or dangerous situation.  We are not here to replace Animal Services, which means we cannot interfere with town licensing regulations.  We have no authority to pick-up tagged animals and return them to owners.  However, if they are running at large, and Animal Services can't be reached, phone us and we can place them in temporary foster care, overnight, until we can arrange pick-up with Animal Services.

How you can Help

Volunteers are at the heart of our organization.  Without the countless hours they contribute, our program could not be a success.  Volunteer help is always needed for fostering, fundraising, public education seminars and more.  In addition to volunteers, we gratefully accept donations of cat and dog food, toys, treats, cat litter, and litter boxes.  Our goal is to eventually have a shelter facility.  If you can help us reach that goal, please CONTACT US!
